The Digital State

The Digital State

Modi's Odyssey - Digital India, Developed India was our book that laid out the road map for India from 2016-2019. Domain experts and practitioners including secretaries to the union government, academia and industry all equally contributed to this vision that got accepted and implemented. Now is the time to lay out a roadmap from 2021-2024 for the union as well as the states to take India to the next level of job generative, spaciously dispersed and equitable growth. This program is an attempt to deliver that vision.

SKOCH Digital State

Digitalization in India has seen a high degree of acceleration in the past two decades. The focus thus far has been Government becoming the public infrastructure provider in the form of data centers, statewide area networks, Aadhaar, Digi-locker etc.

Services delivery has been a high priority area and sector wise mission mode projects have achieved varying degrees of success. These are now being converted into application stacks and API based eco-system development.

Unlike the rest of the world, India has not invested in large scale enterprise solutions and back-end integration. This then makes outcomes sub-optimal and solutions difficult to scale, integrate and be predictive.

A huge amount of digital data has been generated and the time is ripe to develop more advanced technologies like AI, machine learning, block chain and new age industries like gaming to not only govern better but also to increase the size of the Indian Digital Economy.

The Digital State program looks at the ground covered thus far, residual challenges and gaps and tries to propose an agenda moving forward that can have a multiplier effect and growth.

It seeks to return recommendations that form a strong basis for further roll outs. The program is driven through research, academia, government and Industry dialogues and concerted efforts.

Nearly thirty researchers with doctoral backgrounds are working at SKOCH to support the program.
